Lexdray supports The LeBron James Family Foundation

Giving back and creating a sense of community are two things I have always felt strongly about.  Growing up through age 10 in Durham, North Carolina, and having played basketball all of my life, I'm extremely passionate about the impact that sports have on a child's life.

So when I was given the chance to work with the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) I welcomed the opportunity.

The foundation, created by LeBron and his Mom, is guided by two main pillars: support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the Akron Public Schools After School Program.  The LJFF and their partners are helping enrich community support systems across the country. As a core component of their efforts, they created the Wheels for Education (WFE) program, which donates bicycles to children to encourage them to go to school every day.  In August of 2011, third grade students made a promise to their hero. They promised him they would go to school, be respectful to their parents, teachers and peers, be active and make good decisions.  In return, he promised them that he would be the best role model he could be, on and off the court.

Each year the LJFF selects a group of twenty-five high school students which they call 330 Ambassadors. These are a unique group of students from the Akron area chosen by the LJFF and Akron Public Schools. These students serve as role models in the community and each assists with the WFE program.

This past summer I was honored with the opportunity to contribute my design skills to help create a new logo for the 330 Ambassadors.  I also gifted each ambassador a Lexdray Tokyo pack.  My hope was to contribute to their excitement for the upcoming school year and support LeBron in his goal.

If you would like to join the LJFF and myself in these efforts, log onto timetopromise.com and purchase an I PROMISE band. Proceeds from your purchase benefit the LeBron James Family Foundation and their movement to change the nation’s graduation rate.

Proud to be part of the LBJ family.

Lexdray London Garment on Freshnessmag.com

Freshnessmag.com got wind of our F/W 2012 pre-sale earlier this week and posted a nice piece on our new London Garment.  The London Garment will be available at select retailers beginning the first week of November.

PROJECT/reed @ S.L.A.T.E Las Vegas

We were honored last week to be included in PROJECT/reed, a unique exhibition curated by Jeff Staple at the S.L.A.T.E segment of the PROJECT Las Vegas tradeshow. Jeff created a museum like atmosphere containing some of the most exclusive, limited, and creative collaborations to be released in the last few years.

In addition to our Lexdray x Boylston Trading Co Boulder Pack, some of the other brands which completed the installation included Nike, KAWS, Adidas, Levi's, Bape, Supreme, Maiden Noir, Asics and Billionaire Boys Club.

Visitors to the exhibition were greeted with a plaque that read: “What you see before you are physical archives of our world.  They all come from ‘the streets,’ but these items are now some of the world’s most sought-after and highly coveted objects.”

Check out the photos and video below.  More details on the exhibition: Inqmind, Freshness, Complex

NIKE Air Force 1 Bespoke by Lexdray - (Part 2)

I recently had the privilege of working with my friend iZ at 21 Mercer to create my own version of an AF1. It's become common practice these days to create your own Nike's, so I wanted to do what I could to separate this pair from the rest. I started by bringing in all of my own fabrics. Every fabric we used, excluding the sole and laces, are fabrics from our original Classified Collection as well as our collaboration project with Boylston Trading Co. They include 1680D ballistic nylon, lycra coated neoprene, 1000D TPE for the swoosh and lace holes, and even our webbing is used on the tongue. These shoes are crazy comfortable too, as the entire interior of the shoe is lined with neoprene.

This being my first pair of custom Nike's, I also decided to take it up a notch by having my man Jonathan Mannion shoot them for me. Here's what we came up with.

Lexdray featured on The Combined

Our Tahoe Duffel was featured today on Marcus Troy's new blog The Combined. I love the look and layout of this blog. The content is always outstanding, but the subtle overall single column look and use of strictly black and white images makes this one of my new favorite sites.

Troy Twins sporting Lexdray Boulder Packs

If you were like me last week and didn't know influential blogger Marcus Troy had a virtually identical twin, now ya know. Like Marcus, Ahmad Troy is soft spoken, intellectual and opinionated. Makes me like Marcus X 2. After my initial double-take, I couldn't resist getting them to pose for a photo with me...each sporting our Boulder Pack no less. Much appreciated Troy twins.

On and Beyond

Multi-talented blogger, artist, photographer Vincent Tsang added a few posts to his onandbeyond.com blog last week as a result of The Blogger Project. His posts included some outstanding images from Project Wooster curated by Nick Wooster, Herno Laminar's new line designed by Errolson Hugh of Acronym, Staple Design's new line from Jeff Staple, a few pics of Pharrell and Project president Andrew Pollard, and last (though we were the first of these posts) some excellent shots of our booth.  Vincent's eye for great brands and understanding how to capture intelligent product images make onandbeyond a must read.  Thanks again Vincent.

Rumble in the Jungle - Driven by Urban Daddy

Our Tokyo Pack took a hard core trip on the back roads of Bolivia alongside the new Hummer H1 Alpha.  Read the entire article here.

GQ: Stuff We Like

GQ paid us a visit last week at Project New York.  They got a nice shot of one our Boulder Packs in Olive, a new color we are releasing for Fall.  It's always nice to make the GQ Eye on Style blog.  Thanks GQ.
