City Series Mix Volume 45
"If the heart of House resides in Chicago, its soul can be found within..." -Blend*e
Looking back nearly two decades, to a warm summer night in Minneapolis, it was the sound of Romanthony’s “The Wanderer” that broke my silence. It was the keys, the bass, his voice, and those words that awoke a yearning to understand what this deep-jazzy-Chicago-inspired-funky-soulful-sound was all about. Almost out of the gate I knew two things, I had to find a mentor and I had do something that fed my gypsy soul. The latter would bring me to great centers of cultural influence such as San Diego, San Francisco and the like; while the former, I am proud to say, was satisfied in my hometown (Minneapolis) under the wing of DJ Kris B. As the years breezed by I found myself continually evolving my craft, yet never quite establishing the nerve to share my gift with the world. It was not until someone pulled me aside in little town called Berkeley stating "to not share your art is like a perversion of the soul.” that I would come to fully understand what was to become. In 2007 I debuted at a legendary turntable bar (Plush) in Austin, TX.
In the years since, I have had the honor of playing for amazing entities such as Red Bull and Dell, all while holding a six year residency at a club Lanai Rooftop Lounge. I now say with pride that I have been humbled blending alongside Chicago staples such as Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, DJ Heather, and Roy Davis Jr. I’m grateful that life has provided me with countless opportunities to share what I love with those I love. I know in my heart through hard work and continued musical exploration I will keep sharing my art for decades to come.
Thanks for listening!
